The first school in Picher was indeed in a schoolhouse.  Rev. Post was hired as Schoolmaster.  Upon building the "Twin Schools", the original "schoolhouse" was given to Rev. Post for a church.  So, school was never held in the
church house,  church was held in the schoolhouse.
Of course, most people wouldn't look it up, they'd just go along with popular opinion.
