R. A. Hibbard is shown as he traveled the streets of Baxter Springs in 1880, with a wagon load of corn on its way to the mill in Lowell, Kansas. Hibbard settled in this area in 1870 and built a cabin on Shoal Creek which today has been reconstructed on the grounds of the Baxter Springs Historical Museum.
