Here's another look, from farther south, showing about where the Cardin water tower is.
This also shows the basic parts of the mill operation. From top to bottom. The millpond isn't visible,
but every mill had one.  Milling is basically the same as panning for gold.  Wash
away the impurities, and let the "good stuff" settle to the bottom.
Next closest is the settling pond, or sludge pond.  That's where the dirty, silt laden
water was pumped after being used in the mill.  The "sand" settles out, and the water returns to the
millpond, to be re-used.

Then you can see a small rock pile.  Everywhere there is a rock pile, there was a shaft.

Next comes the mill piers themselves.  Can you imagine how much concrete must have
 been poured around Cardin??

Then, of course, is the chat pile.
