Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum
often asked if it is true that you can (or could) drive from
the central mill to Joplin underground.
I don't know for sure, but common sense and mining maps indicate that it was probably true.
The ore vein did not stop at the property lines and the miners didn't either.
Most mines are interconnected as shown on many maps, so why wouldn't it be open from
Commerce to Carthage?
