Hubert C. “Collins” Powell, 88, of Miami OK, passed away at the Freeman
West Medical Center, Joplin MO, on Monday, February 21, 2022, following
a lengthy illness.
He was born in Bennington Ok, on January 25 1934, to Hubert Carrol and
Flora Lee (Collins) Powell of Bonham TX.
He was raised in Cardin OK, and was a 1952 graduate of Pitcher-Cardin
High School. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Air
Force and completed 20 years of active service. During his 20 years of
service he accumulated over 6,000 flying hours in both the C-5A Galaxy
and C-141 Starlifter aircraft. He was awarded the prestigious Air Medal,
Meritorious Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and
retired at the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon retiring from the Air
Force, he worked for the Crawford Insurance Company as an Arson
Investigator in Kirkland WA. He retired and moved back to Miami OK in
1995.
Collins was preceded in death by wife Nevajean of Broadlands IL, son
Terrance Lee, and mother and father. He is survived by his children,
Michael of Marysville WA and wife Norie of Tokyo Japan, Daniel of
Kirksville MO, Teresa of Clovis NM and Jeffrey of Bonaire GA and wife Ma
Luisa of San Carlos City Philippines, his three grandchildren, Randy
Powell of Clearfield UT, Russell Powell of Kaysville UT and Rachel
Powell of Warner Robins, GA; five great grandchildren; siblings, Betty
Feeley of Tulsa OK, Jerry Powell of Hartford CT, and Patsy Abernathy of
Quapaw OK. And many nieces and nephews.
Collins will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Cherokee Co, KS, in
a private ceremony.
A celebration of life will be held in Miami OK at a date and place to be
determined. Service was placed in the care of the Paul Thomas Funeral
