Richard Eugene Barr, 73, of Baxter Springs,
Kan., passed from this life on
Friday, May 24, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo.
Richard was born Oct, 10, 1939, in Picher, Okla., to the union of
Arthur Eugene and Blanche (Wood) Barr. After high school he joined
and served in the United States Army.
He was united in marriage on April 3, 1961, in Miami, Okla., to
Wanda Lee (Payne) Barr. She survives of the home.
Richard worked as a sales manager for National Motor Club for 21
years, before starting Barr Storage and Rentals which he and Wanda
have ran for the last 25 years. He also spent time in the mines and
worked as a police officer. He attended the First Assembly of God
Church in Baxter Springs.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bobby Eugene
Barr, and Michael DeWayne Barr; three brothers and four sisters.
In addition to Wanda he is survived by one daughter, Sherri Barr
Payton, of Baxter Springs; one sister, Leatha June Barr Meadors,
of Cailfornia; granddaughters, Shannon Rachelle Gregory and April
Michelle Ross, of Miami, Okla.; along with two other granddaughters;
and grandson; seven great-grandchildren; along with nieces and
nephews.
A special thanks to Jimmy Fry for all the long hours of
conversation.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Derfelts
Baxter Chapel. Pastor Dallas Satterfield and Ron Barr will
officiate. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.
at Derfelts Baxter Chapel. Pallbearers for the service are Charles
McQuillan, Ron McGregor, Randy Treece, Keith Borrego, Curtis Payne,
and Tony Murray; Honorary Pallbeaers are Rocky Payne, Phil Barr, Ron
Barr, and David DeWayne Payne.
