Bonnie L. Sheppard, 62, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed from this life on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at her home surrounded by family.

Bonnie was born on Feb. 12, 1952, in Douthit, Okla., to the union of Melton and Jewel (Arnold) Sheppard. After graduating from Picher High School, Bonnie was a lifelong resident of this area.

Bonnie volunteered at the Riverton Head Start for about 25 years. She enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens Ladies group, which met every Tuesday. She was a member of the Bethel Community Church. Bonnie loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and even enjoyed watching the local baseball team's play throughout the summer. Bonnie never met a stranger, she always enjoyed a good conversation and putting a smile on someone's face.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, James Brown; one sister, Mary Buzzard, and one brother, Jimmy Sharbutt.

Bonnie is survived by one son, Ricky Sheppard and wife, Brooke, of Baxter Springs; two brothers, David Sheppard and wife, Betty, of Verona, Mo., and Ray Brown and wife, Shannon, of Brandonberg, Ky.; three sisters, Elizabeth Carter and husband, Fred ,of Baxter Springs, Kathy Hatfield and husband, Tim, of Baxter Springs, and Kristy Dycus and fiancé, David Sappington, of Quapaw, Okla.; one granddaughter, Kelly Sheppard; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at Bethel Community Church. Pastor Mark Kerr and Justin Wilson will officiate. Family will receive friends Friday evening at 6 p.m., at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Burial will be in the Baxter Springs Cemetery.
